In April Dr Rico Isaacs gave a keynote lecture at the GoEast film Festival usually held in Wiesbaden, this time it was virtual. Dr Isaacs spoke on the topic of resistance cinema in Kazakhstan presenting an analysis of the highly political and class-conscious nature of the Partisan Cinema movement which exist as a site of dissent in authoritarian Kazakhstan. The lecture built upon his previous research on film and nation-building in Kazakhstan published in his 2018 book published with Bloomsbury, Film and Identity in Kazakhstan.
