Research Themes of the Politics of (dis)order
The work of PoD is realised through a set of themes all interconnected to the idea of order and disorder in politics. Political disorder is driven by what Bourdieu calls ‘objective crisis’ which has the potential to shift discourse to competing and polarising positions. However, contemporary political disorder associated with populism, authoritarianism and nationalism are often premised on perceived and relative crisis. Collectively, our work as a research group is to address and analyse the relative and perceived dimensions of contemporary crisis, how it contributes to the perception of disorder and the ways in which political disorder is not solely about political destruction, but also offers a politics of redemption.
